Databit Solutions

ABOUT

One operator. AI in the toolchain. Senior work, no layers.

I am Stijn Servaes. Databit Solutions is how I practice. The firm looks the way it does because I believe the right shape of AI consulting is one senior person in the room, not a pyramid.

BACKGROUND

What I spend my days on

I build AI-native systems for mid-market and scale-up teams. Strategy, data platforms, AI systems, product engineering. When a client needs a senior technical partner, they get me.

I also work as Lead Research Manager at AE Studio's alignment team, leading applied AI safety research. The work spans mechanistic interpretability, sparse autoencoders, gradient routing, deception detection, and evaluations of LLM subjective experience. That research pulls me into the current shape of the field daily, which is why the systems I ship for clients reflect what is actually in production at the frontier, not last year's patterns.

WHY ONE OPERATOR

Because the translation layer is the problem

Most consultancies solve scaling by building a pyramid: partners sell, directors manage, senior engineers translate, juniors ship. For software where the right call changes weekly, the translation layer is where the project dies.

One senior operator, AI in the toolchain, can now deliver the same amount of work a small team used to. The client gets the senior judgment; the project gets the velocity. The translation layer stops being a tax.

HOW I WORK

Plainly, and in public with you

I write clearly, I commit code the same day I promise it, and I flag risks before they are problems. The work is visible in a shared repo and a shared project board from day one.

I am Canadian, based in Canada, and I work with clients across North America, Europe, and the UK.
